The Phantom Forest, HASP's first community recycling sculpture, measured 430 ft long by 180 ft wide, contained 150,000 pounds of newspaper and won a Region VII EPA Waste Reduction Award.

Metro area residents brought newspaper packed tightly in brown grocery bags to the park and stacked them in a grid pattern. After a weekend of celebration, they returned Sunday afternoon to load trucks that took the newspapers to a recycling center.

The money earned was used to preserve land in the Cloud Forests of Costa Rica.
