Square Foot Beds

Square Foot Gardening

At the left you can see volunteers, Basira Nickle and Annie Kipp helping some of our kids plant in a 4X4 square foot garden bed. At right you see Justin standing behind one of our purple carrot beds. He holds planting templates in his hands. The one at top is for carrots, offering just enough space to grow. Planting at maximum density gets the most out of our limited urban space while shading the soil preventing weed growth.

We are going to begin putting in raised beds the entire length of our 38ft rows. Using Wonder Board (underlayment board used behind shower tile) and used water pipe driven into the ground we hope to increase our production significantly.
